Electric Ireland #ShareTheEnergy

Last year Electric Ireland launched a great competition for 5 tickets to Electric Picnic for you and 4 mates. The tickets were to celebrate Electric Ireland being energy sponsor for the festival and the decision to give each person 5 tickets was genius. Considering a festival is definitely best enjoyed with a group of mates.

2011’s Sparkheads who were a little ‘mobbed’, poor lads.

The mechanic last year involved great integration through FB and a mobile app built into a purpose built page. A location was revealed on a Google map through tweeting of the hashtag #ShareTheEnergy and a ‘Sparkhead’ character appeared at the location with the tickets.

The competition returns for 2012 but the mechanic is a little different with a codeword being displayed and users being urged to tweet the hashtag #ShareTheEnergy again to unveil the codeword and DM it this time to @ElectricIreland. This is obviously to avoid the mobbing of the ‘Sparkhead’ character from last year.

DMing is risky though as the mechanic requires the @ElectricIreland account to follow every single user who attempts to enter. But the account seems to be following everyone who tweets the hashtag, the danger is if they reach a follow limit though. But the guys say they have this all in hand and under control.

The Facebook Integrated live map

Day 1 kicks off today and with only a few hours gone the @ElectricIreland account and hashtag are both trending in Ireland and it the tickets seem to be in Stephens Green / Grafton St. Best of luck to all who enter! I’ll be trying myself but I’ll be waiting to see if a pair appear on Dublin’s Northside closer to work! Last years locations included Dublin North, South, Galway and Cork. Hopefully this years will follow suit!
