My Top 10 iPhone Apps

Haven’t blogged here in a while, anyways as a favour to a friend I promised I’d share my top 5 iPhone apps so where better a platform to gush about the little things that make me love my iPhone with more than a 140 character limit!

Soon to be banned iPhone app at number 1 in the Irish paid for apps charts. At only €1.59 dessid allows users to recover their passwords for all Eircom wireless networks. However, the keen iPhone user will use this to their advantage and hack into protected Eircom wireless networks on the go. The app is harmless to the person who owns the wireless but already Eircom are trying to have the application removed from the app store. So get it quick. To use the app simply open Dessid and select an Eircom wireless network from the list. If successful a bubble will pop up saying ”a3ze…etc.” has been copied to the pasteboard. This meaningless string of characters is the password for the chosen network. Simply enter your Wi-Fi menu in settings select the chosen Eircom network and double tap to paste in the newly found password. Genius.

Sky News
Free app with up to date news & current affairs. Pretty simple there.

Ireland’s Phone Book
Full phonebook listings for Irish homes and businesses. Also free.

Ireland’s Cinema Times
€0.79 for full and complete listings of showings in cinemas all around the republic.

There’s a few battery checkers for free on the app store. Basically they give you a figure percent of your iphone battery life left instead of waiting until the pop up when you only have 20% left.

Free Wiki app, the mother of all encyclopedias in the palm of your hand. Can be a bit of a slow app sometimes though.

Camera Zoom
This app gives the mediocre camera on the 3G a kick up the arse and allows users to zoom on objects. Initial preview is very pixelated and poor quality but final image is always better and clearer.

Free Cydia app (requires Jailbreak) that allows you to download youtube videos in Hi-Med-Lo resolution for keeping and offline playback later. Great fast app with good wi-fi.

Free Cydia app that allows you to record medium quality video on an iPhone 3G.

Best games to occupy your time on your iphone in my opinion are – Toobz, Chain RXN, Flight Control and Penguin

This is only a taste of what you can do, there’s apps for internet radio from around the world, converting units of measurements and size, reading free e-book versions of classics, live currency converters, instrument simulators and many many more! Enjoy!
